Artist Statement 

My name is Mehreen Shaffie and I am a senior at Blue Valley West High school in photography 1. This website is compiled of all my photos based on a variety of topics such as portraits, emotions, nature, reflections, and architecture. When I am creating art I want to have people view it and have their own interpretations. One of my favorite quotes is "Art is not what you see, but what you make others see" -Edgar Degas. This encapsulates my thought process when taking photos. If my subject is a person, I want others to look at their facial expressions and wonder what the subject is feeling or thinking when their photo is being taken. My favorite part of photography was capturing moments with my friends and family.  Although I am a novice photographer, this art has made me realize how much a photo can say through capturing moments in history. Through film photography, my appreciation for art has grown so much. It takes a lot of effort to get the perfect picture with good contrast, and correct lighting. I hope to continue my photography journey in the future.
